Sam’s gonna run and run!

10 miles is a very long way for a beginner

Day 11

Well I did it today.

I got up and got myself out before I could change my mind. The wind had died down which helped lots. Not many people out but more space for me!

I didn’t attempt to run. I need to get back into the walking lark and build back up. Walking down to the pier was fine but coming back it started to drizzle and as I couldn’t face putting my contact lenses in before I came out I was beginning to wish you could get windscreen wipers for glasses. I couldn’t see a thing! Are we going to get a summer this year? I want sun!

Walk completed in just under 45 mins – to me thats 4 bonus points. I’m getting my time  down and the next stage is really to start running but I’ll give it a few more days before the world has to face the sight of me flattening the pavements of West Sussex. πŸ™‚

I’m feeling great now I’ve been out – wish it hasn’t been so long since I last ventured out.

Day 10

Woke this morning with a monster headache still in place. I’ve had it since Monday night – maybe its now as a result of giving up cola. Yesterday I went on the search of low sugar but not containing aspartame squash. I came back with a bottle of organic apple and blackcurrant concentrate. No added sugar. But not cheap – but if it helps me get through the amount of water i should be drinking all the better. I do like water but like everything else there is only so much plain water I can manage!

Anyway due to headache I’m not venturing out – I should but I can’t face it. Plus its still blowing a gale out there and looking out of my window I can’t see a single soul on the prom!

Tomorrow I promise x πŸ™‚

Day 9

Sheer exhaustion has kept me from the promenade this morning. Since I’ve been dieting I have changed the foods I have been eating and going to low fat/sugar options. You know the low fat/sugar desserts etc the ones you eat so you don’t feel you are missing out – oh and the infamous diet coke!

Well I think I’ve developed an intolerance to the sweetener Aspartame. I’ve been up all night with the most painful abdominal pains – no position eased the pain and it lasts for hours. The attacks come on really fast and follows either me drinking diet coke or no sugar squash so I’ve come to the conclusion its the sweetener – so I’m going to cut it out for a while and see what happens. It certainly won’t harm me to give up the fizzy stuff for a while.

So anyway, no running for me today as I am exhausted and feel so nauseous I daren’t leave home.

Not a great start to my training plans. πŸ™

Day 8

Gale force winds and heavy rain are forcing me to stay indoors – although I’m still not 100% I’m itching to get out side but I’m just not ready to compete with the elements that are being presented this morning.

Maybe I’m a coward but weather and not feeling 100% I’m afraid another hour in bed wins! πŸ™‚

Day 7

Its Sunday

Day of rest….but even if I wanted to get out there I still feel rough and the weather is doing nothing to entice me out there.

Day 6

Eeeeek its official!

My RNIB pack arrived this morning and I’ve been guaranteed a place in the run. Now all I have to do is raise £150 minimum and choose what style t-shirt I want. Oh yes and learn to run!

Slight set back ….. ended up in A & E last night with suspected food poisoning. Got home around 4am. Still feeling rough so no training. Weather is pretty lousy too – really windy and rain on top – looks like summer has bypassed us at the moment.

Day 5

It was really wet and windy this morning and only a few hardy souls were out so I did the sensible thing and stayed in bed! Hopefully it will give my knee a bit of a rest and it will stop screaming at me for making it work – you’d think I’d never walked on it before!

I’m hoping this wind soon dies down as I’m actually missing going out – shock horror – am I already becoming addicted to exercise? OMG!

Day 4

Wow it was windy this morning I did manage to run a bit further today (not much but hey its a start!) That was on the outward journey – I was being blown down the prom – coming back was a different story! It was a workout in itself just to walk and keep upright. Certainly no cobwebs remain today, probably can all be located in Brighton lol!

Knee aching still and right foot has decided to join in – maybe I need to look into some new trainers. I’ll keep you posted πŸ™‚

Day 3

Hmmmmm not a good day today. My knees ache and I’m tired and its damp and cold outside – plus they have a digger out on the beach pushing the shingle back up the beach as part of the sea defence maintenance – the smell is gut wrenching!!!!! And to top it all the scales said I’d gained 2lb – not fair!

I walked today – need to look after my knee but I did walk fast enough to build up a sweat (sorry mum – a glow!). To add to all of the above the air was thick with sea mist – something very disconcerting about walking along and suddenly find a bike looming straight at you out of the mist. Mind you I think the cyclist was more shocked having to swerve suddenly!!! πŸ™‚

Despite it being a hard day I remain positive as long as that remains with me even on the not so good days then I’ll get through this. And just to help build up my stamina – I’m off out on my bike!
